Dogs and their incredible sense of smell
Since the mid-1970s dogs have been used to detect termites across the United States.
We have seen dogs in action on the evening news and various other programs to detect arson, explosives, drugs, money, track people, work with the handicapped, detect cancer cells in humans and many other specialized uses. Drug dealers try to detract the dog's acute sense of smell by masking their drugs with coffee, peanut butter and other strong odors, but never with any success. Since a dog can smell in parts per trillion they are able to distinguish individual odors in a way that a human is unable to do. For instance, when you come home and there is a pot of stew on the stove, all you are able to smell is the nice aroma of the stew. However, the dog can distinguish each individual item in the stew, such as the meat, potatoes, celery, carrots, broth, etc.
This astonishing ability to decipher odors makes the dog a great tool in fighting termites. Live termites emit a methane smell that Shiloh is specifically and extensively trained to detect. Shiloh has the ability to smell a termite through a wall and more than 16 feet into a structure. During one of our inspections, if live termites are present in your home, Shiloh will find them and alert the handler to their location(s)

The war on termites has a new soldier! The great news is, he is available to come to your weekly sales meeting!

Shiloh is a 3 year old Beagle that has gone through over 600 hours of intense training to detect termites in structures. Her ability to detect termites through scent approaches 100%. She is a must-have weapon in the continuing fight against termites that is about to be “un-leashed” on these unsuspecting pests.

What we do . . .
Mike and Shiloh will come to your home to do a thorough inspection of your living area, and garage. Shiloh will search along the baseboards and door frames of the interior of your home - these are the "avenues" termites use to navigate undetected. Well, they navigate undetected until Shiloh arrives! We will provide you with an inspection report that will state whether termites are present or not. If live termites are detected, Shiloh will alert Mike to their location(s).

What we do not do . . .
We do NOT treat for termites, therefore we have no incentive to find termites on your property
- We only tell you if they are present or if they are not. If we find that there are live termites in your home, you may follow through on your own or we can provide you with recommendations of honest, reputable exterminators - you are under no obligation to use them and there is no monetary gain for us if you do.

How do Termites get in my home . . .
Because termites need moisture and have a low tolerance to moving air currents and light, they live underground, attacking a home from below. A loose mortar joint, a minute space around a drain pipe, or a settlement crack in the basement is all they need to gain entry.

What can Termites do to my home . . .
Termites eat wood and cellulose products in the environment in their natural state. When they invade a home they are simply looking for food and once they find a good source they stay until the source is depleted. On your property, they can eat away the equity you have built up in your home. Termites infest millions of homes nationwide, causing billions of dollars in damage annually, according to the United States Department of Agriculture. It's estimated that one in four homes has, or will have, termite infestation.

Information about a Termite Colony . . .
The Queen, which can live 35-70 years, can lay an egg every second, which translates to 600,000 a week.
Subterranean termites are native to every state except Alaska and a colony will probably include up to several million individual termites, living as deep as 15 feet underground. They are dispersed throughout the soil at feeding sites around your home. Feeding on cellulose-based material, termites find human dwellings offer the ideal combination of warmth, moisture and food.
